“The Gentlemen’s Retreat is a game-changer as we imagine innovative strategies to save and inspire our youth and in doing so, save our community,” said Brown University Professor and Bronx native Stephon Alexander, who will serve a keynote speaker at the kickoff luncheon on Friday at Providence College.

Chabert partnered with Providence College, IntraCity Geeks, Tilt Communications, Times² (Times squared) Academy, Center of Nonverbal Communication, Gracie’s, Charity Miles, Peace Love and Prezi to make his vision of helping inner city youth a reality.

The young men attending the GR were housed in a mansion in Middletown and enjoyed dinner at one of Providence’s most elegant restaurants.

Launch Day with Coach Cooley

To kickoff off the Gentlemen’s Retreat, Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley addressed the young men on the PC campus. Throughout the weekend retreat, top leaders from the business and academic worlds joined the young men from the Bronx for panel discussions and workshops focused on emotional and conversational intelligence.

"You can scour the country and find plenty of hometown success stories of coaches coming back to their alma maters or the places where they grew up. But there will be few that can match the authenticity of Cooley and Providence.

He is a product of the city. Cooley was one of nine children in a family of a mother on welfare. She did what she could, but clearly Cooley felt even before he was 10 years old that he needed to seek help."
